Homemade Biscuits

Delightful homemade biscuits with a buttery flavor and flaky texture, perfect for breakfast or as a side.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cubed and very cold
  • 1 cup + 2 tablespoons cold buttermilk
  • 2 teaspoons honey
  • Optional Topping: 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • Optional Topping: 1 tablespoon honey

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (218°C).
  2. Combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Pour in the cold buttermilk and honey; gently fold until just combined.
  5. Pat the dough out to about 1-inch thickness on a floured surface.
  6. Use a biscuit cutter to cut out circles and place them on a baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 18-20 minutes until golden brown and fragrant.

Notes

For extra flaky biscuits, keep the butter cold and handle the dough minimally. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days or refrigerate for a week.
