A rich and velvety dessert with cream cheese frosting, perfect for special occasions.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups cake flour
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup buttermilk, room temperature
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tbsp red food coloring
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Sift together the cake flour and cocoa powder in a bowl.
  3. Cream the softened butter, vegetable oil, and sugar until light and fluffy (about 4-5 minutes).
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Mix in the buttermilk, red food coloring, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  6. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients until just combined.
  7. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  9. Cool the cakes in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. For the frosting, beat together the cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth and frost the cooled cakes.

Notes

Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature for a smoother batter. Avoid overmixing to keep the cake tender.
