Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars

Thick, chewy chocolate chip cookie bars with crisp edges and a soft center, perfect for sharing.

Ingredients

  • 2 and 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, at room temperature
  • 1 large egg yolk, at room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Optional: sprinkle of flaky sea salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C). Line a 9-inch square baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Whisk together the flour, baking soda, cornstarch, and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Mix the melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar in a medium bowl until smooth.
  4. Add the egg, extra egg yolk, and vanilla extract to the sugar mixture and whisk until combined.
  5. Combine the wet and dry ingredients, mixing until just incorporated.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed.
  7. Transfer the dough to the prepared baking pan and smooth the surface.
  8. Sprinkle with flaky sea salt if desired.
  9. Bake for 30 to 34 minutes or until edges are lightly browned.
  10. Cool in the pan for at least an hour before cutting into squares.

Notes

Store cooled bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days. Freeze individual squares for longer storage.
