Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box (15.25 oz) chocolate cake mix
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup caramel sauce
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chunks or chips
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • Chocolate shavings (optional)
  • Chopped nuts or toffee bits (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix, eggs, whole milk, melted butter, baking powder, and sour cream. Whisk until smooth.
  3. Pour half of the batter into the prepared baking pan. Drizzle caramel sauce over the batter, then spread the remaining batter on top.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, checking for doneness with a toothpick.
  5. For the ganache, heat heavy cream until hot, remove from heat, add chocolate chunks, and stir until smooth.
  6. Once the cake is baked and cooled, pour chocolate ganache over the top. Garnish with chocolate shavings or chopped nuts if desired. Allow to set before serving.

Notes

Make sure to mix well until smooth for the best texture. If you prefer a richer flavor, consider adding a splash of vanilla extract to the batter. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days at room temperature or up to a week in the refrigerator.
