Basic Butter Cookies

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
  3. Add the vanilla extract and salt, beating until well combined, about 1 minute.
  4. Gradually incorporate the flour, mixing until just combined.
  5. Drop rounded portions of dough onto a baking sheet, leaving about 2 inches apart.
  6. Bake for 10-12 minutes, until the edges are lightly golden and soft in the center.
  7. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.

Notes
