  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/4 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • Crushed peppermint candies (for topping and garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8×8-inch baking dish, lining it with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, granulated sugar, and salt. Mix well.
  3. Gently stir in the melted butter and peppermint extract until just combined.
  4. Spread the mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish and bake for 15 minutes.
  5. While the crust bakes, melt the semi-sweet chocolate chips in the microwave in 30-second intervals until smooth.
  6. Pour the melted chocolate over the baked crust and smooth it out with a spatula. Sprinkle crushed peppermint candies generously on top.
  7. Return the baking dish to the oven and bake for an additional 10 minutes.
  8. Allow to cool before cutting into squares or triangles for serving.

Notes

Store the bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week. You can also refrigerate for up to two weeks or freeze for up to three months.
