The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Ingredients

  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Combine flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl and whisk.
  3. Cream the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
  4. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until a dough forms without overmixing.
  6. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  7. Roll out the chilled dough to about ¼ inch thick and cut with cookie cutters.
  8. Bake for 8-10 minutes until lightly golden on the edges. Cool on a wire rack.

Notes

Chill the dough to prevent spreading, and use flour on your surface to prevent sticking.
