Shepherd’s Pie

A classic dish that envelops tender ground meat in a rich gravy, topped with creamy mashed potatoes, perfect for family gatherings and cozy dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef or lamb
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 cups mashed potatoes
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef or lamb for about 5-7 minutes until no pink remains. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  2. Add the chopped onion and carrots, and cook for 5 minutes until tender. Stir in minced garlic and sauté for an additional minute.
  3. Stir in beef broth, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Simmer for about 5 minutes until thickened.
  4. Meanwhile, prepare mashed potatoes: boil peeled and chopped potatoes in salted water until fork-tender (15-20 minutes), then drain, mash, and mix in butter, cream, and salt.
  5. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Spread meat mixture in a baking dish and dollop mashed potatoes on top, creating texture with a fork.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes until the top is golden brown and crispy. Let sit for 5 minutes before serving.
