Sausage, Cheese, and Butter Swim Biscuits

Delicious Southern-inspired biscuits swimming in a rich butter sauce, filled with savory sausage and melted cheese.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup cooked sausage, crumbled
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or your favorite)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  3. Cut the cold unsalted butter into small cubes and add it to the dry ingredients. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Gradually add the buttermilk into the mixture, stirring gently until just combined.
  5. Fold in the crumbled sausage and shredded cheese.
  6. Spoon the biscuit mixture into a greased 9×13 inch baking dish to form an even layer.
  7. Pour melted butter over the top of the biscuits.
  8. Bake until golden brown and the aroma fills your kitchen.
