  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
  • Powdered sugar (for rolling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.
  4. Mix in the egg, vanilla extract, and red food coloring until fully incorporated.
  5. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, stirring until a soft dough forms.
  6. Scoop portions of dough, roll them into balls, and roll in powdered sugar.
  7. Place on an ungreased baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes.
  8. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.

Notes

Store leftover cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. Dough can be frozen for up to three months.
