New Year Chocolate Orange Celebration Squares

Delightful squares combining rich chocolate and zesty orange, perfect for New Year celebrations.

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup dark chocolate chunks
  • Zest of 1 large orange

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) or set your air fryer to 300°F (150°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix the granulated sugar, brown sugar, and eggs. Beat until combined, then add the vegetable oil and orange zest.
  4. Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry mix and fold gently with a spatula.
  5. Gently stir in the dark chocolate chunks.
  6. Grease a 9×9 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
  7. Bake for about 25–30 minutes until the edges are firm and the center has a slight jiggle. A toothpick should come out with a few moist crumbs.

Notes

Allow the squares to cool for at least 10 minutes. Best served warm, paired with coffee or vanilla ice cream.
