Korean Chicken Bao Buns

Delightful pockets of joy filled with crispy chicken coated in a spicy-sweet glaze, served in soft and fluffy bao buns.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 10 Bao Buns (pre-made or homemade)
  • 1 lb Boneless, skinless Chicken Thighs
  • 1/2 cup Cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup Korean Gochujang
  • 3 tablespoons Soy Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Honey
  • 2 cloves Garlic (minced)
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame Oil
  • Chopped Green Onions (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Cut chicken thighs into bite-sized pieces for quick cooking.
  2. Mix cornstarch with salt and pepper, then coat each chicken piece in the mixture.
  3. Heat oil in a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat and cook chicken until golden brown and crispy (about 4-5 minutes per side).
  4. In a bowl, mix gochujang, soy sauce, honey, minced garlic, and sesame oil.
  5. Once chicken is crisp, pour the sauce over it and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes.
  6. Steam bao buns according to package instructions or your recipe until soft and puffy (about 10-12 minutes).
  7. Assemble buns by placing crispy chicken in each bao bun and drizzle with extra sauce, garnishing with chopped green onions.
  8. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

Store leftover chicken separately from bao buns to maintain texture. Bao can be reheated in the microwave wrapped in a damp paper towel or in the oven at 350°F for 10 minutes.
