Homemade Cheesy Breadsticks

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 3/4 cup warm water (110°F)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder or fresh minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano or Italian seasoning

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, mix the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil.
  3. Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place dough in an oiled bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes.
  5. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Punch down the dough, roll it out into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick, and cut into strips 1 inch wide.
  6. Place breadsticks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, brush with olive oil, sprinkle with garlic powder and oregano, then top with mozzarella cheese.
  7. Bake for 15-20 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

Notes

For better results, avoid over-kneading the dough and monitor baking time closely.
