Gingerbread (German Spice Cookies)

Delightful gingerbread cookies with warming spices, perfect for festive occasions and cozy gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon ground ginger
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup molasses

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. In another bowl, beat the softened butter and brown sugar together until light and fluffy.
  4. Stir in the egg and molasses until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until you get a soft dough.
  6. Roll out the dough to about ¼-inch thickness and cut into shapes with cookie cutters.
  7. Place cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 8-10 minutes.
  8. Allow them to cool on a wire rack.

Notes

Store cooled cookies in an airtight container for up to a week. They can also be frozen for up to three months.
