Easter Bunny Button Cookies

  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Assorted pastel-colored buttons or candy-coated chocolates for decoration
  • Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg and the vanilla extract until well combined and smooth.
  4. Whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  6. Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and place them on the prepared baking sheet, spacing about 2 inches apart.
  7. Press five pastel buttons or candy-coated chocolates onto the top of each dough ball.
  8. Bake the cookies for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  9. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.
  10. Dust with powdered sugar before serving if desired.

Notes

Use a small cookie scoop for uniform sizes and chill the dough if it’s sticky.
