Denver Chocolate Sheet Cake

A rich, chocolaty masterpiece that’s easy to make and perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 13×9 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add in the buttermilk, vegetable oil, egg, and vanilla extract. Mix until just combined.
  4. Slowly stir in the boiling water.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and bake for about 30 minutes.
  6. Let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  7. For the glaze, mix together cocoa powder, milk, and powdered sugar until smooth, then pour over the cooled cake.

Notes

Allow the glaze to set before slicing. Store in an airtight container to keep it fresh.
