Chocolate Sugar Cookies

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until fully combined.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  6. Drop rounded spoonfuls of dough onto a lined baking sheet, spacing them about two inches apart.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes, until edges are firm and centers are slightly soft.
  8. Let the cookies cool on the sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Consider adding a pinch of cinnamon or sea salt flakes for extra flavor. Store in an airtight container for up to a week.
