Chinese Beef and Broccoli

A quick and delicious stir-fry of tender beef and vibrant broccoli in a savory sauce, perfect for busy weeknights.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 4 cups broccoli florets, fresh or frozen
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce (use low-sodium for healthier options)
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch, for tenderizing the beef
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, freshly grated
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil for stir-frying
  • Cooked rice or noodles for serving

Instructions

  1. Marinate the Beef: In a mixing bowl, combine the sliced beef with soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch, sesame oil, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Allow it to marinate for at least 15-30 minutes.
  2. Prepare the Broccoli: Cut the fresh broccoli florets into bite-sized pieces; if using frozen, keep them ready. Blanch fresh broccoli in boiling water for 2 minutes, then transfer to cold water.
  3. Heat the Wok: Place your skillet or wok on medium-high heat and add vegetable oil until shimmering.
  4. Stir-Fry the Beef: Add marinated beef to the hot wok in a single layer. Let it brown for 2-3 minutes before stirring. Cook for another 2 minutes until fully cooked.
  5. Cook the Broccoli: Add prepared broccoli to the wok and stir well to combine with the beef.
  6. Simmer for Flavor: Pour in 2 tablespoons of water and cover for 2-3 minutes to steam the broccoli.
  7. Serve and Enjoy: Serve the beef and broccoli over rice or noodles and enjoy!
